Plastic injection molding offers many unique advantages when it comes to producing parts with challenging designs, complex features, and/or close-tolerance requirements. The precision, repeatability, and flexibility of injection molding all add up to making it the best method for manufacturing many of today’s custom plastic products – from everyday consumer goods to highly specialized industrial equipment.
At Premier Plastics, we’ve spent more than four decades mastering the injection molding process in order to tackle virtually any specialized product needs. We’ve also integrated insert molding and overmolding into our capabilities to accommodate even more specialized part features and multiple material requirements.
Below, we delve further into what that versatility means for your custom product possibilities.
Our plastic injection molding services are ideal for reliably producing highly detailed parts. That includes intricate components with complex geometries and intricate product designs. Premier Plastics thrives at tackling these sorts of difficult-to-mold part designs with close tolerances.
For each project, specialized molds are produced to meet specific shapes, internal geometries, and complex structures of your parts. At Premier, our precision mold tooling solutions ensure precision end products with exceptional repeatability.
When it comes to materials, our injection molding process allows for a wide range of thermoplastic and thermoset materials to be used. This gives you even more versatility in the design and functionality of your products. For example, you can choose materials that meet specific strength levels, other physical/mechanical requirements, chemical resistances, and/or enhanced thermal stability, to name a few potential customizable properties.
Premier’s integration of insert molding and overmolding services allow for the manufacturing of even more complex part features. Furthermore, these advanced capabilities allow us to exploit the advantages of multiple materials – i.e. combining your chosen thermoplastic with rubber overmolds or metal inserts.
With insert molding, we integrate metal inserts (or sometimes other materials) into the plastic part directly during the injection molding process. It’s extremely useful for creating complex plastic parts that require high-strength metal components to integrate various part features – most commonly threaded metal inserts.
By molding plastic directly around inserts, we can create parts that offer substantially improved strength and reliability without the need for secondary operations like assembly, gluing, or bonding.
Similarly, overmolding involves molding one material over top of another, usually to combine hard and soft materials in a single part – e.g. a rigid plastic part with a soft rubber surface. Overmolding is extremely useful in products with hand grips, drop-proof casings, molded seals, or pretty much any ergonomic requirements that demand a combination of improved strength, grip, and/or comfort.
For some projects, overmolding even eliminates the need for post-production assembly, which can significantly reduce your labor costs and production time per part.
